Steamed mussels

Steamed Mussels are a delicious meal that is a lot easier to make than you think. This is an easy Steamed Mussel Recipe that anyone can make at home. This recipe has very little prep time – 20 mins, and cook time is 10-15 mins. Ensure the Mussels you buy are still alive. Make sure shells are closed with no cracks and that you purchase them from a reputable source.

When purchasing Mussels  if the shells are slightly open give them a firm tap and if it closes it is still alive and safe to eat. You can find mussels at your local grocery store or at your local fish shop and usually sold on ice.

 

Mussels ingredients

1 pound mussels, cleaned
1 tablespoon butter (salted or unsalted)
1/4 cup Olive Oil
1/2 cup shallots, thinly sliced
2-3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1/2 cup celery thinly sliced
1/2 cup roughly chopped parsley
2-3 plum tomatoes
thyme leaves
I sprig of rosemary to taste
1 tsp seasoning Salt
1 tsp black pepper
Lemon wedges, for serving
1 cup white wine
1 Baguette warmed for serving

Directions

* Melt butter in a large pan over medium heat. When the butter begins to melt add the olive oil,
* Add the vegetables garlic, shallots, and celery, cook until softened (5 minutes).
* Stir in tomatoes, thyme and rosemary
* Add seasoning salt and black pepper
* Add the mussels, pour in the white wine, and give them a good stir
* Cover the pot with and cook until all the mussels have opened (5-8 minutes.)
* If any mussels do not open, toss them.
* Sir in the parsley, remove the pot from the heat, squeeze in lemon

Serve with warmed baguette
